Woman footballer Laxmipriya Lenka, karateke Madhupriya Bai, woman wrestler Sibani Jena and judoka Nitya Majhi bagged the 4th MB Memorial Sports Talent Award, while the woman athlete Manisha Merel received MB Memorial-Anuradha Biswal Award today.
The awards, carrying citations and Rs 10,000 each were handed over in a function at Jayadev Bhawan here. Odisha Sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera, MLA Arabinda Dhali, Educationist Dr Badrinath Pattnaik and Odisha Weightlifting Association president Chitta Ranjan Swain graced the function as guests.
MB Memorial Trust chairman Naba Ranjan Patnaik, managing trustee Piyusa Mohanty, members Dilip Kumar Das, Gouri Shankar Mishra, Kaibalya Baral, Santosh Kumar Baral, Naba Kishore Barala and Nirmalya Baral were present on the occasion.
The MB Memorial Sports Talant Awards were instituted in the year 2016 by Mukunda Baral Memorial Trust. Mukunda Baral is known as the first wrestling coach of Puri. Reviveing teacher-student culture, bringing bygone sports teachers and their pupils to limelight and felicitating upcoming sportspersons of the state are the main objectives of the award.
